Programme of Events

Our events

We run a programme of events throughout the year open to members. If you're interested in beekeeping, honey or hive products then keep an eye out for our upcoming talks and open days.

What's coming up

Monthly meetings are the second Tuesday in the month.

They are held at Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS
.

The speaker will start at 7.30 but come along from 7.00 to have a drink and chat and of course buy a raffle ticket.

All welcome.

Tuesday 12th September 2023
Stewart Maher talks on Asian Hornets

Our new venue is Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS, ALL WELCOME! The talk will start at 7.30 but do come along at 7.00 to have a drink and chat (and buy a raffle ticket!)

The Asian Hornet is a threat to us all, especially beekeepers - when (not if!) it reaches us, it will change the landscape and our enjoyment of it. Come and learn more about this insect invasion, how to spot them and what to do next . . . . . .

Stewart is the Education Officer for Grantham BKA and the Asian Hornet link for the Lincolnshire BKA. He has worked with the Channel Island beekeepers in their ceaseless task of tracking Asian Hornets and destroying nests and has built up a fund of knowledge about what to look for. Always an informative speaker, this is one to bring family, friends and neighbours to - we all need to be forewarned as much as possible about this pest.

Tuesday 10th October 2023

Paul Barton about Producing Heather Honey

As usual, the meeting will be at Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS, speaker at 7.30 but come along from 7.00 for a drink and a chat about all things bees.

Paul is a second generation beekeeper with a wealth of experience. Many of you will have heard his amusing talk about working with a major bee farmer in Scotland. This talks focusses on the intricacies of moving bees to the heather and the differences in harvesting the thick heather honey.

Tuesday 14th November 2023

Charles Austen - a Barnsley beekeeper who is taking his bees treatment free.

As usual, Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS, speaker at 7.30 but do come along from 7.00 for the social part of the evening, bees and more.

An interesting topic, whether you agree with the aims or not . . . . . and I'm told Charles is an amusing speaker with a dry Yorkshire sense of humour. For those interested in such things he apparently has photos of lots of 'enviable kit' like unimogs. He's coming all the way from Barnsley so make sure you don't miss this one.

Tuesday 12th December 2023

The meeting you've all been waiting for - yes! the AGM.

Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS 7.00 for7.30

Formal invitations have been sent out to all members.

The committee are all willing to stand again so there is no need to avoid attending the AGM for fear of being selected for high office - although of course if you would like to join the committee or stand for one of the posts you will be very welcome. Following the round up of the year there will be a bee related quiz, lots of bee-chatter, a delicious buffet and of course the raffle including a rather lovely calendar.

We look forward to seeing you!

Tuesday 16th January 2024

Note that this is the 3rd Tuesday in January rather than the usual 2nd Tuesday of the month.

Nicholas Watts - Managing a farm with wildlife in mind.

Gonerby Social Club NG31 8JS 7.00 for7.30. Come along early for some social time!

Nicholas has farmed in the Deepings since 1964 and his family is now also involved in the business, combining his love of farming and wild life to produce wild bird food. In 2006, he was made MBE for services to farming and conservation in Lincolnshire. He researches and trials conservation ideas and then shares the results with other farmers and conservation bodies such as the RSPB. His methods have obvious advantages for all pollinators including honey bees.

I think that this will be an interesting talk and a rather 'feel good' way to start the New Year.

Nicholas is coming from a distance so let's have a good turn out to make him welcome!
